How I Reset: Best Places to Getaway in Los Angeles (No Plane Needed)

May 07, 20253 min read

When I need a luxe reset without hopping on a plane, these California gems always deliver some of the best places to getaway in Los Angeles and beyond.

🌊 Rosewood Miramar Beach (Montecito)

Best enjoyed July through October when the weather is beach-perfect. I always book with my Amex Platinum to max out perks like 4pm guaranteed late checkout, daily breakfast for two, $100 resort credit, and potential room upgrades. These benefits help justify the splurge—and let you enjoy every minute of your stay at one of the best places to getaway in Los Angeles county.

🌿 San Ysidro Ranch (Santa Barbara)

One of the most romantic and historic properties in California—JFK and Jackie honeymooned here. The garden setting is magical, and The Stonehouse restaurant is one of my all-time favorites. Get there early to walk the grounds, and don’t skip their house-made mint chip ice cream. A perfect fit when you’re looking for the best places to getaway in Los Angeles for peace, history, and charm.

⛳️ Pelican Hill Resort (Newport Coast)

An iconic destination for golfers with stunning views and beautifully maintained greens. It’s peaceful and secluded, ideal if golf is your main priority. The villas are great if you are traveling with a bigger group and include a private pool, but the hotel pool is the main event if you’re traveling with children. Definitely one of the best places to getaway in Los Angeles-adjacent coastal spots.

☀️ Montage Laguna Beach

My go-to for oceanfront bliss. From the serene spa to dinner at sunset, it’s everything you want in a beachside escape. Service, views, and atmosphere are unmatched. They have an awesome kids club which will run you $75 an hour, but worth it if you need a little adult time during your stay. Without question, it's one of the best places to getaway in Los Angeles for an oceanfront experience.

⚓️ Balboa Bay Club (Newport Beach)

A more affordable option in Newport that still gives you elevated amenities and a great marina location. It’s chic, relaxed, and in the heart of the action without the higher price tag. Great for those looking for the best places to getaway in Los Angeles without breaking the bank.

Travel Tip: I always book using my Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts benefits for perks like:

  • 4pm late check-out

  • Daily breakfast for two

  • $100 hotel experience credit

  • Possible room upgrades

  • Early check-in

These extras truly elevate the stay—especially at higher-end properties. Use my referral link to sign up for the card here: https://americanexpress.com/en-us/referral/platinum-card?ref=JOANNPiE1w&xl=cp01
